Logo design

Our logo design was done by a team consisting of:
Ovidiu Taras - technical
V Eugen Demian - artistic
Marius Ceteras - description

Ovidiu Taras born in Onesti (Romania), in 1969 now lives in Canada (neighbour with V Eugen). His hometown is Arad also, located close to Romania's Western border. Graduated as mechanical engineer in 1995 from Technical University ‘Polytechnic’ from Timisoara, he is married with Cristina and they have two wonderful boys, 1 and 6-½ (the older one goes to Eugen's chess club).
He had the chance to learn Corel Draw and PhotoShop at his first job when he was assigned to work on the company's products catalogue. Later on he even went to the capital city (Bucharest) for advanced courses. Came to Canada together with his family in December 1999 and joined a steady growing group of University graduates of Romanian origin already established in Greater Vancouver area.

Logo description

A short serious explanation of our logo's significance:
Tower = Potaissa "castrum"

The red flag of Roman Legions = in the memory of Legion V MACEDONICA. Symbols on the flag: winner + SPQR inscription = SENATVS POPVLVSQVE ROMANVS = The Senate and the Roman people.

Rook above the chess board = PAX ROMANA will dominate in the end ICCF Champion's League

Romanian flag = Romanian club

"VENI, VIDI, VICI" = "I came, I saw, I conquered", famous words of Caius Julius Caesar addressed to the Roman people after his blitz-war win in the battle of Zela, year 47 B.C.

Another explanation of our logo's significance:
It finally solves the misterious dissapearance of the Rook lost by the Barbarian STEVE RYAN in his epic battle with EVGENIVS. This Rook is now Latin possesion and becomes symbol of fear struck into the hearts of other Barbarians.

Our protector

The team's protector is Fortuna Redux, the goddess of happy returns from battles.

Fan Club Potaissa

Each sport has its own adoring fans and each club has its own dedicated fan club!
Potaissa Turda Chess Club located in the heart of Transylvania is one of the most popular in the region.
Radu and Mihai Munteanu were born in Cluj-Napoca less than 30 years ago. Radu is an engineer and sociologist; Mihai is an engineer and historian. Currently both of them hold assistant positions and teach at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Faculty of Electrical Engineering.
As designated co-Presidents, their focus is to intimidate our Club's opponents and win the psychological warfare against the Barbarians (like Gambiteers Guild, Chess Mail's teams, The Wicked Bishops, Randaberg Vikings, permanently unrested Germanic tribes and such).

The message of Potaissa's fans to Barbarians

Ave chess fans!

Like the Roman Legions 2000 years ago, this Champions League will see the New Millennium Potaissa Legion gloriously marching on!
Beware of the Roman Gods' anger toward anyone's intentions to ridicules our Club!
Barbarians, forget about chess and remember Conan!
Go back to your roots (if you have any)!

The Munteanu Brothers
