Potaissa
Turda - short history
The CC team Potaissa Turda has
been founded at the beginning of 2002, right after ICCF (International
Correspondence Chess Federation) made the original announcement
of launching the 1st edition of Champions League.
At that time 3 OTB players members of the club: Marius Ceteras,
Vadim Chernov and Alin Toma, decided to join an old friend and
team mate Valer Eugen Demian, to form a CC team and enter the
League. Their purpose was/is/will be crystal clear: reach the
highest levels of the League and spread the word about a dormant
Romanian CC. Later on and with that purpose in mind Vadim Chernov
- tied up with OTB coaching commitments - offered his spot to the
Turkmen player Sergey Simonenko, little known yet to the general
public but with a great experience.
Turda is a small size city located in Transylvania, near the
imaginary center of Romania.

The map of Roman Empire
After the Roman Empire conquered Dacia (sec.II after Christ),
Potaissa became an important Roman city in Dacia Porolissensis.
Beginning with 168 A.C. Potaissa was home of the Legion V
Macedonica; this military designation increased even more the
importance of the city which became "municipium" and
soon after "colonia" during Septimius Severus reign.

Septimius Severus
Our team Potaissa Turda will continue the glorious tradition of
the Legion V Macedonica, greeting friends with bread and enemies
with the sword.
We are certain that after reading these pages all those
insignificant Barbarians who had the nerve to play with words
such as "Potaissa - potatoes" will fall to their knees
and ask for forgiveness. Why we are so certain? The answer lies
again in historical documents covering the Legion V Macedonica.
The Legion always imposed admiration and respect regardless of
teritory, at a time when Barbarians were still hiding in caves to
escape carnivores, or were eating raw potatoes and tree roots.
