FIFTH INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT
CHESS AT SCHOOL
For school chess teams
Under the patronage of Mr. Kiril Yordanov, Mayor of Varna,
and Nikeia Hotel, Zlatni Piasaci
July 9th-14th, 2003
The purpose of the tournament is to attract for participation more school chess teams of the Balkan and Black-sea countries, all European countries and the sister cities of Varna.
The tournament has the statute of qualification for the European Championship of the School Champions.
Two tournaments will take place:
Tournament A: for school chess teams under 12 years of age
for participants born after 1 January 1991
Tournament B: for school chess teams under 16 years of age
for participants born after 1 January 1987
! The tournament will make the first unofficial rating of school chess teams on the Balkans.
PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS
Right to participate in the tournament have teams formed from one school only (or assembly teams for places of less than 50 thousand residents).
The teams comprise of three members: two boys and one girl and have one team leader.
The team members must have attended their school for at least one school term (the second term).
All willing teams meeting these conditions may participate in the tournament.
The tournaments will be held by the Swiss system in 7 rounds: 40 moves for 75 minutes plus 15 minutes to finish the party.
DOCUMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION
Application: The application shall contain: name and surname of the players, date of birth, school name and address; name, address and telephone number of the team leader. ! The application must be signed by the school principal and sealed with the school seal !
ACCOMMODATION
The teams will be accommodated at Nikeia hotel.
Prices for room, full board and participation fee for one team - 420 EURO.
Guests and accompanying persons: room and board: 16 EURO
Cultural program: visit to Aladzha monastery, trip to the city of Varna (the Dolphinarium and the Aquarium), trip to Balchik (the Botany garden, the Summer palace): 20 EURO per participant.
PROGRAM
9th July. Arrival, accommodation and registration.
1.00 p.m. Technical conference
2.00 p.m. Opening of the tournament
2.30 p.m. Beginning of the first round.
The program for the tournament days will be announced at the technical conference.
14th July, 8.00 a.m. Seventh final round.
2.00 p.m. Awarding ceremony and official closing of the tournament.
PRIZES
1. The winners of the two tournaments (A and B) under 12 and 16 years of age will be awarded Grand Prix prizes and "Best School Chess Team" and cash prize of 500 EURO.
The Grand Prix winner teams have the right to participate in the Fourth European Tournament for School Chess Teams in 2004.
2. The second-place winners will be awarded cups and free participation right (full board and participation fee) in the Sixth Tournament Chess at School in 2004.
3. The third place winners will be awarded cups and presents.
4. Awards (plaques or gold medals) for best result: 1st board; 2nd board and 3rd board.
5. Best Party and Youngest Participant awards.
6.The winner teams from the Balkan countries are awarded the title Best Chess School Team on the Balkans
