FIFTH INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT
"The HOPES of the WORLD"

The purpose of the tournament is to attract for participation school champions of all Balkan and Black-sea countries, all European countries and the sister cities of Varna.
The tournament has the statute of qualification for the European Championship of the School Champions.
The tournament will make the first unofficial rating of school champions on the Balkans.
The first tournament The Hopes of the World was held in September 1997.
Winners and Grand-prix laureates were:
Tatyana Kostyuk (Ukraine) and Master of Sports Deyan Bozhkov (Bulgaria)
and Nevena Nikolova, Best Party prizewinner.
PARTICIPATION CONDITIONS
Right to participate in the tournament have all boys and girls born after 1 January 1987 who have paid the tournament fee of 20 EURO.
The tournaments will be held by the Swiss system of the FIDE rules in 9 rounds: 40 moves for 75 minutes plus 15 minutes to finish the party.
This tournament has been presented in FIDE and is acknowledged for international qualifications.
According to the treaty signed between the International School Chess Union (ISCU) and Morsko Kontche National Children's Chess Foundation the Program of The Hopes of the World Tournament includes the International Chess Tournament "Chess at School" for school champions-boys and girls up to the age of 10, 12, 14 and 16 (born respectivly after: 1.01.1993,1991,1989 and 1987)
FINANCIAL
1.The participants and the guests of the tournament will be accomodated at Nikeia Hotel.
2.The tournament participants and guests will be accommodated and provided full board: 105 EURO.
Cultural program: visit to Aladzha monastery, trip to the city of Varna (the Dolphinarium and the Aquarium), trip to Balchik (the Botany garden, the Summer palace): 20 EURO.
PROGRAM
2nd July. Arrival, accommodation and registration.
1.00 p.m. Technical conference
The program for the tournament days will be announced at the technical conference.
2.00 p.m. Opening of the tournament
2.30 p.m. Beginning of the first round.
8nd July, 8.00 p.m. Ninth final round.
2.00 p.m. Awarding ceremony and official closing of the tournament

PRIZES
1. The winners in the different age groups, boys and girls under 10, 12, 14 and 16 years of age will be awarded "Best School Chess Player" and Grand Prix Cup.
2. The winners from the Balkan countries will be awarded Balkan Champion among the School Champions.
3. Award for youngest participant (boy and girl).
4. Awards for best party.
5. Special prizes of the Bulgarian Chess Federation, the Ministry of Education, Varna Municipality, Union of the Black-sea Municipalities and others.
